Chandler: When I get back, it's Chair City.

Chandler and Joey are in a fight over who is sitting in a chair. Ross wants everyone to get dressed for a museum benefit of his. Ross suggests Chandler to go change first while Joey is in a chair. And after that Joey would go, and Chandler could sit in a chair. Chandler in annoyed, yet heads out of the apt to go change. On his way Chandler turns and scrams at Joey.

Chandler: When I get back, it's Chair City. And I'm the guy that ... sitting in the chair!

Audience laughs and I have no idea why. What is Chair City?  Is that a saying? Or some famous company? Game? What does Chandler refer to?

  1. Honestly, I've always wondered if this was a specific reference to something, but have never found anything plausible. My guess and somewhat comfortable understanding has simply been that Chandler here is trying to come up with something terribly witty to say as he exits, but isn't doing a great job of it. He starts out with "Chair City", but then realizes he's got nothin for the follow-up, so just sort of blurts out "...sitting in a chair!", resigns himself and leaves.

s03e17 Chandler: No, Hymn 253: "His Eyes are on the Sparrow."

How is Chandler's reference to Hymn 253: "His Eyes are on the Sparrow" funny? Ross and Rachel just broke up. Rachel invites guys to a free event she has tickets to. They reject the invitation, because Ross had them reserved for that same night earlier. Rachel says that it's not a big deal and leaves. Everyone is upset especially Chandler. He lights up a cigarette even though he wasn't smoking for a year already. Someone knocks on a door and Chandler says: Chandler: That's great. With my luck, that's him. Phoebe:  Him? Ross?
