Chandler comes back with great news. He has found dozens of guys to be Rachel's blind date.
Rachel: So, will I like any of these guys?
Chandler: Y’know
what, I’m gonna uh, play the field just a little more.
Rachel: Chandler!
Chandler: Guys are signing over their 401-K’s to me?

What does "guys are signing over their 401-K’s" mean?

401-K is a tax-deferred investment account. Money you put in your 401k gets taken from your gross paycheck before taxes are taken out, then the money in that account gets invested in various portfolios (typically chosen by you), and you can't take it out until you retire. If you take it out before then, you have to pay taxes on the money, as well as early withdrawal fees.
But what does it mean when people say "guys are signing over their 401-K’s" to me still isn't clear to me.
So apparently guys are ready to give up their retirement money formed by the 401-K to Chandler just for him to fix them up with Rachel :)
DeleteThat seems to be right! I wonder if it is a good amount of money though?)
DeleteIf you're making regular contributions to your 401-K, it will grow to be a very large sum by the time you're older; the idea is that you could live on it for the rest of your life after retirement, so think about how much that would be. Also, I think part of the implication of it being "signed over" is that the person it's "signed over" to would still get the growth of the money, not like th eperson just took out whatever money was in there at the time and handed it over.
