Rachel: You don’t spend the whole day on the Matterhorn

Chandler asks Monica for a sex advice. She draws out a sketch of 7 basic erogenous zones for a woman and starts to explain.

Monica

- Now, most guys will hit uh, 1-2-3 and then go to 7 and set up camp.

Chandler
- That-that’s bad?

Rachel
- Well if you go to Disneyland, you don’t spend the whole day on the Matterhorn.

What does the last Rachel's line mean?

  1. I assume that Matterhorn is some sort of a ride at the park. Is that supposed to be the most important one?

  2. The Matterhorn is just a ride at Disney, though a rather famous one (probably moreso back then than now). It is, indeed, a good one, but I think she could've chosen any ride in the park to make her point, which is just that you don't spend the whole time on one ride, even if it's the "best" ride. I think Matterhorn is just a recognizable ride name that they chose to use.

    1. I see, the Matterhorn attraction Google says was open in 1959. So I guess when Rachel was a baby, it could have been the name that has stayed with her as an adult to use as an example here. Thank you, Triene

  3. I saw it as The Matterhorn is a kiddy ride, so anyone who is an adult wouldn't spend all day on it... Maybe? I'm just speculating as I have never been to the park.

    1. Kiddy ride... That I have no ides about. Google images are not very clear on the age group the Matterhorn attraction is focused on. But maybe indeed, it is something bright to start your Disney experience. So it works as a metaphor alright

s03e17 Chandler: No, Hymn 253: "His Eyes are on the Sparrow."

How is Chandler's reference to Hymn 253: "His Eyes are on the Sparrow" funny? Ross and Rachel just broke up. Rachel invites guys to a free event she has tickets to. They reject the invitation, because Ross had them reserved for that same night earlier. Rachel says that it's not a big deal and leaves. Everyone is upset especially Chandler. He lights up a cigarette even though he wasn't smoking for a year already. Someone knocks on a door and Chandler says: Chandler: That's great. With my luck, that's him. Phoebe:  Him? Ross? Chandler:  No, Hymn 253: "His Eyes are on the Sparrow." What is that with this hymn?
