s01e02 Chandler: I don't know, but I think it's about to attack the Enterprise

What is Enterprise? And why the sonogram is supposedly about to attack it?

Ross is showing guys the sonogram, the first video of his child inside Carol's belly. But Chandler and Joey aren't fast to share Ross's enthusiasm and excitement. Honestly boys are not able to make out much of this sonogram video.

Joey: What are we supposed to be seeing here?

Chandler: I don't know, but I think it's about to attack the Enterprise.

What is Enterprise? And why is sonogram is supposed to attack it?

The word enterprise itself means a big undertaking. But notice how it is written in FRIENDS subtitles above. Enterprise there starts with a capital E. So Chandler must be referring to Enterprise the starship from science fiction tv show Star Trek.

Star Trek is the American tv show from the 60-ies. Over 60 years of the show's existence it has grown into all sorts of films, comic books, reboots of tv shows and the most popular conventions.

Gene Roddenberry, the Star Trek's creator, writer and producer, was notably determined to sending the anti-war message with his show. That is why the Enterprise, the starship, carried a message of peace across the space and wouldn't ever have the intention to attack any alien species. But we know no conflict no story, so the episodes' acrs must have been centered around Enterprise being a target.

Plus since the Star Trek show is pretty old and movie technologies weren't as thorough as they are now, the images of possible attackers the Enterprise ship would receive might have looked pretty similar to a sketchy video of baby's first sonogram.

I feel like giving Star Trek a chance now!

Who is Holden McGroin? Joey looks for a new stage name. Over the episode Joey tries many of them on. By the end Joey appears on a stage introducing himself with a name that gets lots of laughter from the audience. Joey: Holden McGroin. Who is Holden McGroin? And why is Joey taking that name funny?

Chandler: You have to stop the Q-Tip when there's resistance!

What does the phrase 'stop the Q-Tip when there's resistance' mean? Chandler needs new pants made and asks friends for a contact of a good tailor. Joey raises a hand - yep, he has a tailor. Chandler feels all set. But Joey starts to share way too much of boring detail. Joey : He did my first suit when I was 15... No, wait, 16... No, excuse me, 15... All right, when was 1990? Chandler :  You have to stop the Q-Tip when there's resistance! What is Q-Tip? What is the whole "You have to stop the Q-Tip when there's resistance" expression is referring to?  Apparently the joke was among few that Matthew Perry, the actor who played Chandler has improvised on the set. Also that is the joke some websites say that Matthew is the most proud of. So let's try and get it! Q-Tip is a cotton swabs brand name. You know the ones you use to clean your ears after a bath. Q here stands of "Quality". Americans say "Q-tip" but often mean not a particular
