Chandler: Oh, I think this is the episode of Three's Company where there's some kind of misunderstanding.

What is Three's Company? The friends are watching a TV show called Three's Company at Monica's apartment. Some blond girl character in the show says holding up a lacy bra 'looks like she's left not in such a hurry after all'.  Chandler:  Oh, I think this is the episode of Three's Company where there's some kind of misunderstanding. What is Three's Company TV show? Three's Company is an American sitcom television series (1977-1984) about a group of three friends two girls and a guy platonically living in one apartment.  The main twist, that the guy needs to pretend being gay since the landlord doesn't allow mixed-gender people living in one apartment.  The girl character we see on friends' TV is Chrissy Snow, also one of the main characters on that show. Chrissy's so called blonde moments make a solid part of the list for running jokes in Three's Company series. Blonde moments here is a stereotype, part of which says that blondes a

Chandler: For us, kissing's an opening act.. like the comedian you have to sit through.. before Pink Floyd comes out

Is comedian being an opening act a thing? Who is Pink Floyd? The gang is discussing the meaning and importance of kisses before sex. Chandler voices guys' perspective on the matter. Chandler: For us, kissing's an opening act.. like the comedian you have to sit through.. before Pink Floyd comes out What is an opening act? Why the comedian is in it? And who are Pink Floyd? Let's start from the end. Pink Floyd are one of the most commercially successful and influential rock bands of all time. This English rock band was formed in London in 1964. Interestingly the author  Jere  O'Neill Surber once wrote: "their [Pink Floyd's] interests are truth and illusion, life and death, time and space, causality and chance, compassion and indifference."  Remember it is still only the second episode of Friends in the show, and the characters of six friends are still being stated at every opportunity. Knowing that Chandler is a fan of music/lyrics of such soul-searching kin

Chandler: I'm in Las Vegas. I'm Liza Minelli

Why Chandler dreaming he's Liza Minelli is funny ? It's end credits and the time for a farewell type of joke in Friends. The gang is sitting in the cafe and Chandler begins to tell his new dream slash story. Chandler: I'm in Las Vegas. I'm Liza Minelli Audience laughs. And I am like, yeah? Is all the joke that he is some famous woman called Liza Minelli? Or is there more to it? Liza Minelli  (1946) is an American actress, singer, dancer and choreographer. To say that Liza is a pretty big performance star would be an understatement. A huge star would be way more right. At least  by the beginning of Friends tv-show in  1994 she is.  In 1990 Liza became one of just 21 people in the world who has won all four popular awards - Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award. EGOT is an acronym for these people, if you want to google the other 20 lucky winners. So Chandler just mentioning Liza Minelli, rings the bell for every American ear in that sitcom audience. Still, is the joke is

Ross: Split it?

Is splitting Oreo a thing for Americans? Monica just went to her bedroom. Ross and Rachel for the first time in the episode and the show are left together. There is a dish of Oreo cookies on the table. Only one cookie is left. Ross and Rachel both reach to that cookie. But as each of them realizes the other wants the cookie, both retreat, conceding the sweet treat to one another. Ross: Oh, no- Rachel: Sorry- Ross: No no no, go- Rachel: No, you have it, really, I don't want it- Ross: Split it? Rachel: Okay. Yes, this rapid exchange is not really a joke. But again this is the first scene in the entire series where Ross and Rachel are together. I believe that in order to make the first time viewer root for the couple writers took time to fill the moment with references that are dear to the American heart. Plus the Oreo. It is a brand of cookie on the table that is recognizable even to me. And marketers know how much meaning and stories can be packed in one brand name. So I went sear

Joey: Of course it was a line!

What other lines exist in the US dating culture ? Monica just found out that Paul, the wine guy, she just slept with last night, has lied to her. Apparently Paul uses the same sad divorce story to butter up every girl he is going out with. Monica is terribly upset. How could she fall for it? Paul felt so sincere! How could this complex vulnerable story be a line? Joey: Of course it was a line! A line is a tried and true string of words, that give the speaker something they desire. Usually when you say 'what a line!' you are talking about dating world. So I wonder what other lines are out there we need to be on a look out of? Here I should say that mostly people use lines, when they are only about to score a date. And these are a few examples I found: - I’d say God Bless you, but it looks like he already did. - Well, here I am. What are your other two wishes? - Did Ross and Rachel ever really break up? Frannie: Oh, I hate you, I'm pushing my Aunt Roz through Parrot Jungle and you're having sex!

What is Parrot Jungle ? Monica is at work physically, but in her mind she is still thinking about last night with Paul. Frannie, the colleague, enters and stands next to Monica. Monica: Hey Frannie, welcome back! How was Florida? Frannie: You had sex, didn't you? Monica: How do you do that? Frannie: Oh, I hate you, I'm pushing my Aunt Roz through Parrot Jungle and you're having sex! What is Parrot Jungle? Parrot Jungle is a tourist attraction in Florida near Miami. It grew out of a small feed store for birds, where the owner Franz Scherr, held a few parrots on display. To take a picture with five of parrots at a time was a postcard-like opportunity for tourists in Florida. You barely would miss it, even if you are a figure of high importance, like Churchill. Parrot Jungle was built as a winding nature trail with birds 'flying freely' over the hears of the visitors. Since the path in Parrot Jungle was meant to be a bit tricky, Frannie must have had some trouble ind

Paul: Last night was like,... the barn raising scene in Witness

What is the barn raising scene in Witness ? Monica and Paul are saying goodbye at the door after their first night together. The evening before Paul has reviled to Monica his deep dark secret of not being able to perform sexually, ever since his wife left him. But this night everything worked again! Monica seems to heal Paul. Paul: Thank you! Thank you so much! Monica: Stop! Paul: No, I'm telling you last night was like umm, all my birthdays, both graduations, plus the barn raising scene in Witness. Why the barn scene in Witness is supposed to be a great analogy to Paul here? What is funny about this comparison? The bran-raising scene comes from Witness a crime drama film from 1985. The movie is about a cop John Book, that takes on to protect a young Amish boy, who witnessed a murder, and his mom. John Book is played by a popular star of the 90-ies Harrison Ford.  As a young adult, Paul must have been fascinated with Ford for over a decade. Harrison has stared in the series of
