How is Chandler's reference to Hymn 253: "His Eyes are on the Sparrow" funny? Ross and Rachel just broke up. Rachel invites guys to a free event she has tickets to. They reject the invitation, because Ross had them reserved for that same night earlier. Rachel says that it's not a big deal and leaves. Everyone is upset especially Chandler. He lights up a cigarette even though he wasn't smoking for a year already. Someone knocks on a door and Chandler says: Chandler: That's great. With my luck, that's him. Phoebe: Him? Ross? Chandler: No, Hymn 253: "His Eyes are on the Sparrow." What is that with this hymn?
Maybe something related to the illegal copying of various stuff (пиратство)? Like she's getting "illegal" random job for a while?
ReplyDeleteNot sure, was this "pirate" term that widely used back in 1993? And she indeed stresses out the BACK word. Guess Chandler should be responding to emotion produced there.
Deletewhat Chandler means to ask is.. "were your clients stolen by pirates, and you will be trying to get them back?" that's the joke nothing in the episode
ReplyDeleteThat is one interesting perspective. Thank you, might be so!
Deleteyes, I think that's the joke. She's talking about 'getting her clients BACK', which could just mean that she convinces them to come back, but it could sound a lot like she needs to GET them actively back from somewhere, as if they were taken from her. And who would kidnap wealthy clients off to far away places? pirates.
DeleteYeah, it feels like there should have been more story to it earlier in that episode. Will try to rewatch it and dig for the answer.
DeleteThere's nothing else in the episode about it, it's just a quick joke about her clients being taken by pirates, as said above.
